The Waupun Area School District recently approved the purchase of a house located at 623 South Watertown Street, Waupun, at the annual school board meeting held, October 30, 2017. The house will be utilized by the school district to provide a site to teach independent daily living skills to students with special needs. A huge thank you to the City of Waupun and many others that made this possible! Please see below for the background and details about the use of the home.
The house is a 'shell' - the interior just has stud walls - this is great because it is like a 'new canvas'... the house can be finished to meet ADA requirements and the needs for school-use. The second trimester high school building trades students will likely help with some of the construction, such as putting in the insulation and drywall. This provides a great hands-on learning opportunity for students in our building trades courses at WASD.
Recently Completed & Next Steps:
Work to secure a basement wall was completed and tree stumps/roots will be removed which are impacting a basement wall.
Utility and initial electrical work will be completed very soon.
Layout for the house interior will be determined soon, and then necessary permits will be secured.
A timeline will be developed, with interior walls, HVAC, electrical and plumbing as first items to complete.
We've already been blessed to receive inquiries about how to donate items for the house! This will be a coordinated effort sometime next year...so stay tuned for more information coming in 2018.
A special thank you to the following people who are helping with initial planning decisions: Mike Bos, Ryan Christian, Wendi Dawson, Steve Lenz, Tonya Olson, Shane & Tara Rhodes, Jen Schramm, and Ryan Seichter.
